Roses & Boats: Kim & Darren’s Seattle Wedding

In mid August, I had the pleasure of photographing our friends Kim and Darren getting married at Woodland Park Rose Garden, followed by a fantastic reception at Lake Washington Rowing Club (which is actually on Lake Union, just to confuse us all!) It was a true family affair: although I wasn’t the official photographer this time, I was part of a big group of close friends all wearing our various vendor hats. Stacey Jehlik was on fine form as Wedding Coordinator (she even found a spectacular free firework display on Lake Union for us to watch!); assisting her was our friend Dave Kaludy; the gorgeous Jen Hurlbert designed and made all of the bridesmaid dresses; our friend Neal Van Hoeven flew up from Atlanta to officiate; and my husband Josh played DJ and totally rocked the house … it was such a fun night!

It was pretty tough choosing which images to upload - but I hope you enjoy the selection. The black & white photo of Kim & Darren on the balcony was from my favorite moment of the evening: when Kim showed her new husband the boudoir photos we took a few weeks ago. It was so exciting getting to see the guy’s reaction - I almost cried! I also had to include a photo of their awesome favors (such a neat idea) … and the photo of Kim’s makeup artist looking surprised to be caught with her lipstick out must be my favorite candid I’ve taken so far.

Shooting Wide, Down South

In the middle of a crazy busy summer, my whole family went down to Mount St Helen’s and Portland to celebrate my dad’s 60th birthday. We got super-lucky with the weather (there were severe downpours, but only while we were driving) and the area surrounding the mountain looked especially dramatic thanks to the moody storm clouds.

I used the trip to play with my newest lens - a very generous gift from my parents - and I am totally in love! It’s definitely not a boudoir lens, but it will be great fun to use at wedding receptions. Introducing the Sigma super-wide 10-20mm!

Kim: Bridal Boudoir at the Monaco

Kim and Darren got married yesterday - yes, photos coming soon! - so last Monday, Kim and I sneaked off to Hotel Monaco for a boudoir portrait session … we had so much fun! Kim had several sets of beautiful lingerie, plus her veil and a bright pink cowboy hat - part of her bachelorette party outfit (she’s originally from Texas). She also got up the courage to take some nude shots, and we ended the session in the shower and got my absolute favorite boudoir shots of all time! Anyway, here are some of the less revealing photos from our session.

Summer Wedding Bliss in Snoqualmie: Cory & Dan

The second of last weekend’s double header weddings took place at the beautiful Salish Lodge hotel, overlooking Snoqualmie falls - what a location! I was there in second shooter capacity; the main photographer, Alyssa Evans, was sister of the groom, and she wanted to be able to spend time with her friends and family during the event. Cory and Dan are two of the most generous, fun and happy people I’ve ever worked with - and I know that it shows in their photos! I especially love the very informal, fun image I captured during the ‘formals’ time. Oh, and a special mention should go to their awesome DJ, Chris Graves. Chris was smart, friendly, highly professional and played a ton of great music.
