Stylish in Steilacoom: Jessica & Kenny’s Wedding

Last Saturday, I photographed Jessica & Kenny’s wedding in Steilacoom, a gorgeous little village on the Sound near Lakewood. I started the day taking some detail shots at Jessica’s house where the girls were getting ready, then moved on to Steilacoom’s Pioneer Park to get some shots of Kenny and his best man. The light was glorious! Bright sunshine, threatening clouds … the stuff of drama. And although there was a constant threat of rain, it stayed dry and bright all afternoon.

As often happens, everything ran later than planned, and the sunset ceremony was really a post-sunset ceremony (a good challenge for my lighting technique!) I also got to improvise with some night time formals, which were tons of fun - and I’m so pleased with how they came out! The reception was short and sweet (there were many cute little ones who needed to go home and sleep after the day’s excitement), but there was time enough to capture some great dancing, a lot of drinking and chatting, and the most awesome garter toss ever (the proud winner was the very cute little boy in the photo below - although I hope he’s not *really* the next to be married!)

Here are some of my favorite shots from the day. The guy on the bench is Bill, their very cool officiant - at one very funny point during the ceremony, he looked over to me and said, “I hope you’re getting some good shots of this!” The flower just below is one of the ones used in Jessica’s beautiful up-do … and the gorgeous candle holder was hand-blown by a family member, and used as a centerpiece at the reception. Enjoy!

Hollywood & Maltby: April & Dan

On Friday September 14th, I was back at the Hollywood Schoolhouse, photographing April & Dan’s wedding. It was a sweet, small and very informal affair, and after the ceremony and group photos, we headed to the tiny village of Maltby for the reception at Maltby Community Club. I was impressed to see how much of the day was put together by the couple and their friends; April and her girls arranged and tied all of the flowers, the Maid of Honor was in charge of hair & makeup, and Dan used his catering background to lay on a full dinner buffet. They even cleaned up the reception hall at the end of the afternoon - before leaving in their newly modified and decorated car (Dan’s friends rigged up the horn so that it beeped every time they used the left indicator!)

Here are some of my favorite images from the day. We were unlucky with the weather - it was that famous Seattle gray known to us photographers as ‘the North West soft box’, but at least it didn’t rain! And I love all the shots around the Schoolhouse - it’s such a pretty venue, even when the sun is hiding away.

Boudoir Teasers for Four Friends

Oops, I’m a little behind on my blogging at the moment, but it’s been a very busy few weeks - what with weddings, boudoir marathons and getting the new website up and running. I’ve also been meeting with clients several times a week in preparation for next summer’s weddings … so please forgive me!

Anyway, here’s what you’ve been waiting for - teaser photos from four of my lovely boudoir marathon ladies. You may recognize three of them from my previous post about the marathon - and the fourth is another friend who attended one of my Sunday sessions two weeks ago. Thanks for sharing, ladies! And I am so excited to get your slideshows up for you … hopefully that will be in the next week or so!

And now for an exciting announcement …

As promised yesterday, I have some exciting news to share with you all: I have a brand spanking sparkly new website! I was hoping to go live with it last Friday, but it’s been a bit slow getting going - as apparently these things are - but at least it’s working with one domain name for now (it should be working on my regular website address too soon, hopefully in a day or two). So without further ado, here’s the new site!

Medieval Nuptials in Bellevue

OK, so I have a ton more boudoir photos to post, and some very exciting news to announce, but first I should get back to posting some wedding images! A couple of weeks ago, I had another of those crazy double-header two-wedding weekends. The first wedding was at Robinswood House over on the Eastside, and it was an outdoor medieval-themed wedding. The bride, Melissa, was wearing a stunning seafoam green medieval dress which perfectly suited her European heritage, and she and her new husband Ben incorporated some lovely medieval and Swedish traditions into the ceremony, including a rope-tying ceremony. Here are some of the highlights:

More Boudoir!

It’s already Tuesday … and yet I’m still recovering from this weekend’s crazy, awesome, beautiful boudoir marathon! This weekend, I had a total of seven lovely ladies to work with, including one of my January wedding clients, and we were back at my new favorite studio in Ballard. As usual, most girls came along to individual time slots spread over the weekend, but I also had a trio of gorgeous girls on Saturday night who decided to make it a proper boudoir party. The showed up on Saturday afternoon with about 30 bags, a gazillion bottles of bubbly, some very strange test tube shots and some great outfits. Five hours later, still buzzing from their photo sessions and somewhat tipsy, they left - but not before I’d taken a few last photos of them all together, having a crazy pillow fight on the huge bed, and then resting afterwards.

So, here’s one of my favorite photos from the last few moments of the trio shoot … and also, finally, a photo of the infamous boudoir chair. Hopefully I’ll have some teasers up for you in the next week or so. Watch this space!

Boudoir Marathon Season

Well, OK, so maybe it’s not exactly boudoir marathon season, but it sure feels like it around here! I spent the last Saturday of August in a huge, light-happy studio in Ballard photographing five gorgeous girls in all kinds of outfits and poses. We had a kayaking life jacket (best prop ever!), a cute gray army wife T, a ton of sexy pearl necklaces, a real school uniform, some killer heels, and of course some very pretty lingerie. Tons of fun! The studio is my new favorite place, too: there’s a sexy black wall, a high-fashion white wall, and even a double bed in its own little bedroom area!

I’ll be back there in a week or so for my last boudoir marathon of the summer. There are at least six girls already booked in, but I currently have spaces on Saturday at 11am, and on Sunday at 3pm, 5pm and 7pm. There’s more info on my boudoir page here. Send me an email if you’re interested! And finally - here are three of the girls’ teaser photographs from last Saturday’s session.
