Diptych Day: Shower

This week was a tough one for us both!  Amy and I both had some motivational issues, and I’m pretty sure the main cause for this was a sticky theme.  Maybe we should stick with easier ones!  Having said that, I do actually love what we ended up with as a diptych.  Seattle wedding photographer Amelia Soper took the gorgeous image on the left of her kitty Cleo sitting in her favorite wrestling spot (!) and I decided to go for the macro perspective with backlit water drops as they rushed out of the shower head.

It was a fun technical workout for me this week … will the fastest available sync speed of 1/250 actually show droplets? Yes!  In fact, this was shot at 1/100.  Can I backlight the water without wrecking my speedlight and Pocket Wizard?  Yes!  Ziplock bags are my friends.  Can I even focus on the water droplets themselves?  Not on auto focus, no.  I switched to manual focus (Laura, I hope you’re reading this) and got close enough.  I wish the focus was better but getting it this close took 27 frames, and I have a whole host of other projects I should be working on right now …  Anyway, we’d love to hear your reactions.  And head on over to Amy’s blog later today for her perspective on this week’s challenge.
