Introducing … Wee Beasties!

You may have been wondering where I’ve been hiding these last few weeks – my blog posting has certainly been at an all-time low! Well, I’ve been busy working on a new site to showcase the other side of my business – kids and pet photography. Although weddings are my number one love, I’ve been really enjoying exploring a new kind of lifestyle portraiture that focuses on the little monsters in your life, in all their drooly, mucky glory. I’ve been trying to create images that are frank, witty and sweet – and 100% honest. No posed studio nonsense – just great photos of little ones and furry monsters being themselves.

After a number of super fun kid and family shoots over the last few months, I decided it was time for these sessions to have their own dedicated site – meaning, of course, that I can keep the focus of this blog firmly on weddings and engagements. It all finally came together this afternoon, and I can’t keep it a secret any longer! So, without further ado, here’s Boston’s freshest kids and pets photography site, Wee Beasties Photography!

Porter, at 135mm

Over the last few months, I’ve been giving serious thought to scaling back my camera bag and shooting with just my absolute favorite lenses. I became a fan of prime lenses (fixed focal lengths) a while ago, and wondered if a purely prime kit could work for me at weddings. Well, I get to find out soon; I’m second shooting for another photographer with just a couple of my favorite prime lenses. I’m very excited about this!

I’ve been thinking what my ideal kit would contain. Something very wide; something very long; a couple of lenses on either side of the normal range to cover everything else (normal on my D3S is a 50mm). And a macro. the lineup is looking like this: 24 1.4 / 35 1.4 / 85 1.4 / 105 2.8 macro / 135 2.0. I own all but the 135mm at this point – so a couple of days ago I rented it. The 70-200mm is a huge lens to give up, and I need to make 300% sure that I’m ready before committing to the 135. My rental arrived this afternoon … I think I’m in love …

Porter hates the camera, but will at least sit when bribed with Milk Bones.

Snow Dogs!

I can’t get over how amazing this snow is … and what better way to enjoy it than spend some time kicking it at the park with my super cute family. Yes, this is my hubby Josh, in case you’ve been wondering if he really existed! And he was looking mighty cute in his gators and woolly hat. We also made a new friend at the park, the awesome little bulldog in the teaser pics below, Butters. Thanks to his human dad Scott for letting me take some snaps – and I’ll email over some photos in the next couple of days.
