It’s funny photographing your friends. This is the first time I’ve been hired by really close friends to document their wedding, and it makes for a very different day than usual. Although I’m photographing them just how I photograph any of my couples, when I look back at the images, the emotional attachment I feel, the tingles that creep up my arm … well, it’s striking. I could look at their pictures for hours. I know when I see the candids of guests that yes – that really is such a Scotty expression, and wow – my hubby looks super cute in that picture, and – haha! – Michelle knows how to strike a pose in the photobooth. It is a little insight into what I guess most of my clients and their families and friends must feel when they see their own wedding photos for the first time. It’s pretty awesome.

Beth and Mike’s teasers will start properly late next week (I have another wedding and some portraits to blog first), but I wanted to share this photo from their first dance. Honestly, there are any number of photos I could have chosen, photos that make me smile and tug at my heart a little, but I love the quiet sweetness of this shot. The way Mike is holding her, the way his eyes are closed and he is really feeling the moment … the way that, despite four fabulous inches of Badgley Mischka shoes, Beth still has to reach up to wrap her arms around his neck … I love these guys and I guess this photo shows a little sliver of what it is that I love.
