Trashing the Dress, London Style

Last Sunday, as well as a mini couple session with Chris and Gen, I took a few shots of Gen in her wedding dress.  I was excited to show off the architecture of her dress against some of my favorite European architecture, around Bank and St Paul’s in the City of London.  We didn’t get the best weather, but when you have a beautiful bride and amazing buildings to work with … well, it doesn’t really matter!  Here are a few teasers … and now I’m back to vacationing and hanging with my best buddies in Dorset.  Holiday snaps coming soon!

Trashing the Dress: Misha + Liam

Wow, after such a busy week, it feels like months since I met with Misha and Liam for their trash the dress session - but in fact it was just last Sunday.  It was such a glorious day - bright, breezy and sunny.  Yay!  We started out at the childrens’ play area of a little park in north Ballard, where we had a lot of fun messing around on the swings, merry-go-round and various other wedding-dress-unfriendly play things.  The park was busy so I got creative with my shutter speeds and angles and got some cool effects.  I love the ones on the merry-go-round!

After a while at the park, we headed down to Golden Gardens, my favorite trash the dress spot.  I love the photos of Misha in the sand dunes - she looks so pretty and content.  She even braved the freezing cold water for a quick paddle before we headed off.  Thanks for being such a daring bride, and enjoy your teaser pics!

Trashing the Dress at Carkeek: Morgan + Dino

Mo and Dino hosted one of my all-time favorite weddings back at the beginning of August up on Orcas Island, and It was like being reunited with old friends when we met at Carkeek Park last week for their mini trash the dress session.

I’m trying to streamline my blog posts right now so that I have a little more time for wedding editing, and a little more time for my family … but wow, it’s hard choosing just a few favorites!  Here’s a small selection from our evening … Thank you again to Mo and Dino for being … well, awesome.

Golden Gardens Trash the Dress: Tecla + Craig

Last Wednesday evening, I met with Tecla and Craig for the final installment of their fabulous photographic story - their trash the dress (TTD) session.  I suggested Golden Gardens for contrast with their engagement photos and wedding shots, and boy am I glad I did.  It was such a beautiful evening, and *just* warm enough for a little swimming …

Trashing the Dress, Hawaiian Style: Kari & Chris

It’s a bit miserable here in Seattle - so what better way to brighten up the day than to post some more photos from Hawaii? A couple of days after Chris and Kari’s beautiful wedding on Oahu, we headed out for a morning ‘trash the dress’ session. Huge thanks to Nate Naismith, father of the groom from Marcy and Kyle’s wedding, for finding me the two fantastic locations for our shoot!

We started off at Waikiki Natatorium just off Waikiki beach. It’s an awesome building but it was sadly still closed for renovations, so my hopes for funky shots by the distressed buildings and reflections in the pool were shattered. Still, we grabbed a couple of shots outside under the arches and in front of the gates (and were accosted by a local Santa Claus, also there for a photo shoot - yes, it was as weird as it sounds, seeing Father Christmas by the beach in 80 degree sunshine!)

We then headed off to the beautiful and utterly serene Lanikai Beach in the south east corner of Oahu. It is such a perfect spot - bright blue water, perfect golden sand, and two little islands just offshore. Gorgeous! The sun was a little harsh, but it made it a lot easier persuading Kari and Chris to wade into the sea, fully clothed!

We started with some couple shots, then Chris took out his camera (he’s a photographer too) and I spent some time alone with Kari. It was hard narrowing down the selection, but these are a few of my favorite shots …

Trash the Dress: Madness & Mayhem in Seattle

On Sunday I had the strangest task that’s been requested of me so far: a trash the dress group marathon for eight (yes, eight!) recently married ladies. It was insane! I met up with Michelle, Tanya, Mica, Taryn, Tami, Elizabeth, Liz and Jen at the Olympic Sculpture Park. We took some group and individual shots on the beach at Myrtle Edwards Park, then some group shots at the ampersand sculpture, ‘Love & Loss’. We then caught our party bus, first to Pier 57 for the carousel, then on to Post Alley for some silhouettes in the alley and some shots with the bubblegum wall.

Next stop was the highlight of the day - photos with the famous flying fish at Pike Place Fish Market. The guys there were so much fun - they gave each bride a fish to kiss, they threw a few with us, and they even led the ladies behind the counter for some group shots. We ended up being surrounded by a huge crowd - all wondering what on earth this craziness was!

Next up: Fado’s Irish Pub for a quick bite to eat and a lunchtime tipple, then on to Gas Works Park for sunset photos on the hill. We tried to get some fun shots with the bubbles that Michelle had bought for the session, but with sun down it got icy cold and we were happy just to huddle up under the painted gasworks for some industrial shots.

Last stop of the day was EMP. It was pretty dark by now, but I did get some fun photos on the pink wall and under the fairy lights. There’s also a super-silly jumping photo which we’ll hopefully be able to recreate in the summer … if this wasn’t trashing enough for these crazy ladies. And here are a few of my favorites …
