Kate and Danny’s upgraded 10×10 Signature wedding album arrived in the mail recently and I had to share some photos as it’s utterly gorgeous! They chose to upgrade their album to include an additional 14 pages (smart people!) and added a luxurious and super cool acrylic photo cover.

The construction of these albums is top-notch … they really are so much better than everything else that’s out there right now.

LUXE WEDDING ALBUM: JEN + SCOTT’S BELLE MER WEDDING IN RHODE ISLAND

Nothing makes me happier than the arrival of a new sample album, especially when it’s from an album company that several of my favorite photographer friends have been *raving* about for some time. These beautiful flush mount albums feature the most exquisite printing, with perfect color rendition and a very pleasing, soft finish (there’s nothing more distracting than a garish glossy finish!) Plus, the full seamless panoramic prints mean that no part of the image is lost in the center.

These new albums are available with either a round spine (more traditional) or a square spine (more modern). The pages are square cut for an elegant, modern look, and deliciously weighty (look how thick they are!)

There are a number of cover options, including leather wraparound (the most traditional style), photowrap, leather with photo cameo, and this amazing acrylic cover. The acrylic sheet is thick, with a photo mounted underneath. It is sleek, modern, and oooooh so cool.

And what fun would an album post be if I didn’t include a few of my favorite spreads? In fact make that … almost all of the spreads! Thank you Jen and Scott for having such a spectacular wedding at beautiful Belle Mer in Newport, RI. It was a treat designing a sample album for my studio with your images!

SIGNATURE WEDDING ALBUM: PATTY + NATE FOUR SEASONS BOSTON

One of my favorite things is receiving new albums in the mail for my clients. Patty and Nate’s wedding at Boston’s Old South Church and The Four Seasons was back in May, but it took us until late fall to put our heads together and design the album. They ordered a Signature Flush Mount album in pearl leather, and two silk bound parent books. I don’t have photos of the parent books as they came in just in time to be given to their families for Christmas, but the Signature album takes longer (it’s hand bound in luxurious leather) so I got to take some photos before handing it over. Happy days!

Here are some of my favorite spreads from the album … it’s so nice reliving this beautiful wedding through the album.

SIGNATURE WEDDING ALBUM AND MATCHING PREMIUM PARENT ALBUM: JEN + MORGAN

I’ve been designing lots of albums recently and one of my favorites just arrived from my book binder – happy day! Jen and Morgan got married at beautiful Castle Hill Inn in Newport, RI in June, and despite a very rainy (and cold!) day their wedding was gorgeous. They chose the Signature Flush Mount Album in a lovely cream leather, with a matching 8×8 Premium Parent Album, also in cream.

Sample Album: Ophelia + Jeremy’s Fine Art Book

Right before Christmas, I ordered up another studio sample album with photos from Jeremy + Ophelia’s beautiful July 2009 wedding, a 9.5×9.5 Fine Art Album. This album is a little different to the Flush Mount Album, and it’s also a little more affordable. The main difference between this one and the Flush Mount is the printing: instead of being printed on photographic paper, it’s printed on fine art paper with a soft, velvet-satin finish. The colors are saturated and vibrant, and the printing is very sharp. Another major difference is that it comes with a photowrap cover as standard. Other options are available, including funky 3/4 leather binding, with just the front cover as a photowrap (I’m excited to order this style for my next sample).

The other big difference is that the pages are much thinner – these pages are soft and flexible, like thick card, whereas the Flush Mount pages are much thicker (around 2mm) and more solid. The image below shows the optional dust jacket. I recommend adding on a dust jacket if you’ll be carrying your album around with you as it offers a little extra protection.

It’s been interesting watching the reactions of recent clients and other studio visitors when presenting the two album styles. Most people have a very strong feeling about which style they prefer, with around two thirds preferring the flush mount albums. I really like both, but I would probably choose the Fine Art book for a high-end guest book upgrade, or portrait album, and the Flush Mount for my wedding album.

Sample Album: Kathleen + Andy’s Flush Mount Album

Since moving from Seattle to Boston this fall, one of the biggest differences I’ve noticed between East Coast and West Coast couples is in albums: West Coasters seem to consider them extravagant extras, whereas to most East Coast couples, albums are a very important part of the wedding photography package. This makes me super happy because a high end, professionally designed album is a joy to behold, and there is nothing I love more than to see my photographs in a gorgeous, modern family heirloom.

So, over the winter I’ll be adding a few more samples to my album arsenal, and the first I have to show you is a 10×10 leather-bound flush mount album featuring Kathleen and Andy’s July 2009 wedding.

The album is covered in premium Pearl leather, and it is soft and creamy. I chose to have their names imprinted on the spine in silver – which makes it beautifully subtle (and a nightmare to photograph!) The cover features a large photo metallic cameo which is inset into the leather. This unusual element adds to the overall modern couture feel.

The construction of these particular flush mount albums is first class; it took a lot of research (and much feeling-up of albums at conventions and trade shows) to find what I believe is the finest craftsmanship in the industry. The leather is soft and buttery, the spine is perfect, and the printing is second-to-none. I particularly love that I can design panoramic spreads: because there is no gutter, the entire image is displayed, no matter where it is on the page.

I currently have two flush mount albums at the studio; Kathleen and Andy’s wedding sample and a boudoir sample album. The boudoir sample is shown below in Cherry, along with a number of other sample books. Let me know if you’d like to make an appointment to see them in the flesh!
