Golden Gardens Family Session: Adrienne, Chris + Tate

Last week I got to meet up with one of my favorite wedding couples from last summer, Adrienne and Chris, for some final family photos before I move away. They drove all the way from Olympia for the session and I had lots of fun showing off my favorite Seattle beach to them, Golden Gardens.

Chris and Adrienne’s son Tate is four years old and a charmer. He totally stole my heart within five minutes – how could you not fall for that ADORABLE little face, and that faux-hawk? Love it! I was also super impressed that he managed to keep this going for the full session … an hour and a half is a long time for a kid that young. He was such a rockstar. Thank you guys for traveling all that way for me, and for coming and enjoying a beer afterward. Hopefully it made the long drive home a little more pleasant!

St Joseph’s Church and Ray’s Boathouse Wedding: Anne + Peter

Last Saturday, I met up with Anne and Peter for their beautiful wedding at St Joseph’s on Capitol Hill and reception at Ray’s Boathouse (yum!) I started at the church with some quick getting ready shots in the basement dressing room. There were some access problems with the dressing room at first, but Anne was so calm and cheerful about it that I knew right then it was going to be a very relaxed and fun day. Possibly my favorite image of the day was a quick grab shot I made as Anne walked up the stairs from the dressing room. Something about the light, and the mood …

Our next stop was Volunteer Park where we held Peter and Anne’s hilarious first look. As I was setting up, Peter asked, “is she gonna run up and scare me?” to which I laughed and said “no, she’ll give you some kind of signal like a hug, or kiss, or say your name”. Wrong! I almost died laughing as Anne did exactly as predicted by Peter. Too cool. We took full advantage of the shade at the park for the family “formals” (I really must find a more suitable term for these) and the wedding party shots. Hello amazing parasols!

The ceremony, a beautiful Catholic mass with communion, flowed seamlessly into a fun departure, followed by couples photos at Golden Gardens. I love how relaxed and happy Peter and Anne look in these photos, and we had a fun time clambering over the dunes. Meanwhile, my assistant Fiona did a phenomenal job getting detail shots and guest photos during cocktail hour at Ray’s … thank you Fiona! The reception was a whirlwind of fabulous food, great speeches, unusual first dances, kids with cameras (it was like having a miniature entourage!) and beautiful views. Bellies, Boudoir and Beaching: Michelle + Scott

It’s an incredible honor being asked to photograph momentous occasions in peoples’ lives – and never more so than when it’s for your very dear friends. Scotty and Michelle spent a while trying for their first baby, and it was announced to our family here in Seattle on Christmas day. It took me a few minutes to get what the heck their strange little Christmas card was all about (yeah, I’m slow like that) but when it finally dawned on me that they were expecting I burst into a quivering mess of happy tears.

Their belly session was rearranged four times, but we finally got to hang out and rub the bump last week, and I am so excited to post these pics. I always find it so much tougher photographing my friends (they know the real me that’s hiding behind the goofball exterior) but I think we did OK. Well, I’ll let you all be the judge of that.

It was Michelle’s baby shower on Sunday, so this is part of my absentee gift (I’m back in Boston right now, house hunting again). Thank you, good luck, and all my love to you guys. And congrats on the FAB paint job in baby Nougat’s room!

Golden Gardens Belly Session: Brianne + Shane

One gorgeous evening last week, I met up with Brianne and Shane for their belly session at my favorite portrait spot in the world, Golden Gardens. It’s not the typical way to shoot a maternity session (it seems that most are done in a studio) but it worked out so well – even if we did get a few strange looks from the teen boys hanging around the bathhouse!

Brianne and Shane are the most amazing couple to work with. As well as being gorgeous, they are also incredibly natural in front of the camera. And I’m sure it helps that they are just bursting with pride for their soon-to-be baby, little Jackson … too cute! I love how they dressed, too – and their colors and the beach setting were chosen to work with the beach theme in Jackson’s new bedroom. Love!

Thank you, Shane and Brianne, for being so easy and fun to work with, and for fighting on through the evening despite the cold. I can’t wait to send you your full collection!

Golden Gardens Trash The Dress Session: Hailey + Stan

Hailey and Stan got married last fall out near Spokane where they live. I wasn’t available to cover their wedding, but after our very fun engagement session on July 4th last year they decided it would be fun to meet again for some post-wedding dress-trashing pics. Yeah!

Hailey wanted to get some cute beachy pictures, so of course I had to introduce them to my favorite watery Seattle spot, Golden Gardens. If you haven’t been to Golden Gardens on a sunny evening then you pretty much haven’t lived! They loved the beach, of course, and Hailey even braved the icy cold waters for a quick paddle … and I was very impressed to see how she managed to keep smiling, it was so cold in there!

They brought along the newest addition to the family, their super cute mini dachshund Jack. He’s a little bit camera shy, but I could resist at least trying to get some cute shots of him too (and I got the most adorable family portrait of the three of them together!)

We finished the evening with a couple of shots down at the market (Stan proposed with a flying fish so the market has a lot of meaning for them). Thanks guys for travelling so far for your photos – and I’m already looking forward to next time!

Sunny Seattle Engagement Session: Katie + Bobby

Hurray for sunshine! I can’t believe that after months of dull, cold, miserable weather we had such an amazing day today. It was great timing – I met with Katie and Bobby late morning for their engagement session and although it was a little crazy at our first stop, Golden Gardens, it was so nice to be warm at the beach.

We started out in the sand dunes. I’m not sure what it is, but they’re a great fire-starter … Katie and Bobby immediately relaxed and the smooching began!

It all got a little too toasty (and sweaty!) so we tried a nice shady spot next. Katie wanted some photos of them being lions (or was it tigers?) in the long grass, and I love their expressions in the second photo!

On our way out we stopped at a couple of my favorite spots near the bath house. There’s something about those trees … and I loved the arched doorway in the bath house building (the shade was nice too!)

We decided to escape the crowds and head over to Fremont for the second part of our session. There’s an amazing photo and film studio there, and I loved the light coming onto the steps outside the building.

Next up was Fremont Outdoor Cinema, another favorite spot of mine. Bobby’s a hip hop DJ at KGRG 89.9, and I’m pretty sure the tattoo on his arm is a mic. How cool!

We took a few last snaps outside Theo Chocolate, and then Katie had to run off to work. Thanks for a super-fun session and see you for your wedding … in July 2009!
