Snowshine Bridals: Monique

I’ve just spent a week in Vegas at the mega photographest that is WPPI. It was exhilarating and utterly exhausting. Just before I left, the lovely Monique visited me in Jamaica Plain for some snowy/sunny bridal portraits – my second practice session following the workshop in Denver. Monique and Adam got married back in September 2009 and we share mutual friends, Kelly Alice and Chris. One of the things we were taught during the workshop was how to pose people by mirroring rather than using explicit spoken instructions; working with Monique gave me a unique opportunity to use this method as she has been deaf since a young age (she is also a phenomenal lip-reader so I wasn’t reliant solely on the mirror-posing).

We were blessed with gorgeous sunshine that lovely, warm afternoon at Olmsted Park and Leverett Pond in JP. Thank you, Monique, for trusting me. I hope you enjoy the results!

Boston Back Bay and Jamaica Plain Engagement Session: Courtney + Darren

On Saturday afternoon, I met up with fellow JP residents Courtney and Darren for a fun afternoon of sunshine and drinks and pictures. Or at least, fun sunshine and fun drinks … Courtney is incredibly camera-shy and I’m pretty sure that the picture aspect of the afternoon was tortuous. I had fun though … and Courtney was an amazingly good sport (maybe she’ll even think it was worth it when she sees the photos – that’s my hope!)

We started out in beautiful Back Bay, amongst the brownstones. An easy warm-up walk-about to start, then some snuggles along Commonwealth Ave:

Comm Ave was pretty crazy (it was the first warm Saturday in a while) so we headed back to Marlborough Street for a little more privacy.

Those buildings, and those blossoms … so pretty! Next up was Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square, where Darren and Courtney met. They are still regulars and it was cute seeing them relax into their seats at the bar. I wish I could photograph drunk … the drinks looked amazing!

On the way to the bar I’d spotted this neat little bridge between the buildings at the back of Kenmore Square. I figured the light would be better if we waited a little, and I’m so glad we went back after drinks. I love these!

Our last stop was back in Jamaica Plain. We were originally planning on heading to JP Pond, but when we saw how busy it was everywhere we figured Olmstead Pond might be a better bet. I love this place – and It was my first time photographing here, which is always fun.

Jamaica Pond Engagement Session: Kelly Alice + Pants

Last Saturday I got to hang out with two of the most amazing people I’ve ever met – Pants (Chris) and Kelly Alice. They are quickly becoming two of our best friends here in Boston, and I adore them. A little while ago I asked how they’d feel about helping me out with some photos – I’ve been wanting to break into gay and lesbian weddings for quite some time, and after getting accepted into the fabulously titled So You’re EnGAYged I decided I couldn’t wait any longer.

We started with a couple of quick shots in my studio room – it was pretty cold out and I knew I had to have some images that showed off their awesome tattoos …

I loved that we also managed to show how playful they are with each other. Then, we headed out to Jamaica Pond, to the little bench where Pants proposed.

You’d never know the pond was teeming with people that afternoon (just what you want when your photographer is asking you to be intimate, ha!)

I love how Pants is smiling here. She was trying really hard all afternoon not to show her teeth, and she’ll probably kill me for posting this … but how can you not love how genuinely happy they look?

I was super excited when Kelly Alice told me that they’d brought along a bottle of bubbly – and a third glass for me, woo-hoo! Nothing beats a little al-fresco drinking in the afternoon.

After we’d exhausted the engagement bench, we made our way over to my favorite spot in JP … stopping by this tree on the way:

The last shots of the afternoon are some of my very favorites. I think everyone was feeling a little more free and easy after the Champagne. Thank you, thank you, thank you to my amazing and utterly loved up friends. I hope you enjoy your photos!

Love Scenes: Brunch Reception in JP

I’m excited to announce a small exhibition in Jamaica Plain, MA, next month. Myself and five other fab local photographers will be showing some of our favorite Love Scenes – images that represent love and romance. The exhibit will be on view by appointment with fab realtor Edana Spicker (agentedana@gmail.com) of McCormack & Scanlan throughout February, and we’re hoping that you’ll join us for a brunch reception on Saturday, Feb 6 from 11am through 2pm.
